Today is day 60 in the year 100 in the first Millenium. We are what some of you call "The Nomads" others call us the Travelers. Before the End, our ancestors lived in a green lush area known as the northern German Plain. Lakes, rivers, forests. I have seen images of it but nothing is the way it used to be.
Everything is dry and brown. Most rivers and lakes disappeared. Constantly howling winds throw up clouds of dust and debris. Our ancestors manage to survive the apocalypse in an underground bunker on an Air Force Base.
This bunker was build during a time called "Cold War". Funny name.
They were able to stay there for about 20 years before supplies run out. There were about 50 of them.
From newborn to no older than 45. After going above ground only the strongest survived - about a dozen of them.
After some travel they came upon an old Army depot and were able to get some of the vehicles going. Over time time they found equipment that they could use for their survival. Electronics,weapons, ammunition and most important Geiger Counters.
Since that time we had't had a place we could call our own. So we move around and offer our services to anyone for food, shelter and supplies.
We have lost a many good people but we also had many join us in their quest for survival.
We heard rumors about some vessels that can travel on water. We are going to find those and continue our odyssey to find a better place to live.
On a last note....We can be your most loyal friend or your worst enemy....the choice is yours.

Massive nuclear attacks in Ruhrgebiet near Cologne were followed by chemical and biological bombings. Germany now is spread into to parts with a dead belt in the middle. From what I could hear on some radio transmissions the attacks were along that line to the Atlantic in the west and to southern Poland and Russia in the east. If that is true Europe from now is departed into a north and a south half.
The rest of the army fall apart and the major locations nearby were left alone. Today we managed to open three bunkers and we take everything we found in there. A lot of ammunition and weapons, even some Sidewinder at Lager Lechfeld and we were able to get 5 M113 tanks and a lot of spare parts for them. What the hell they have done with them at Lager Lechfeld? But well I don't care.
The build up of the glass houses is going on. We need more glass. That's a thing we have to discuss tomorrow. I think we should go on another ride searching for more goods.
I very worried by those biological bombings - this could cost us a lot of lives.

We are back from our tour - Kerstin ([sub]my grandfathers wife[/sub]) always hates it, when we go out to get things, but this is the only way to build up a community which will have a chance. They were very busy here, they have completed the 10th big glass house but we need at least 10 more to feed about 100 people - well if we'll be able to survive ...
We lost 5 brave men on our tour by an attack of some outlaws - those gangs are getting more and more since everything is broken down. Fuchstal also was attacked by a gang a month ago and another 8 were killed among them were 3 younger women - it's so sad.

Tomorrow is Xmas - what a year - I was too busy to write something or better I was too exhausted every evening. But it was a promising year:
We closed the B17 ([sub]the main road to get to Fuchstal[/sub]) and build up a fence running from the lech up to the hills in the west. We get the three electrical river plants back to work and build up some flood walls to protect them.
We made 2 more tours and we found some still useable helicopters in Czech - four old Mil-4 but those are driven by piston engines we will be able to repair. It was a big mess to get them onto the trucks and to get them here. But - now they are here and we now have to learn how to fly them
... brings back some memories when I used to fly jets and helis in simulation programs ... that will be real fun - ah and someoen have to translate all those Czech handbooks we brought with the Mils
In September some new people arrived from Swiss and Italy that's very good, new helping hands and new ideas.
Sadly to say, but we lost 27 men and women this year because of accidents but mostly because of outlaw attacks.
After those massive bombings along the line Le Havre, Paris, Cologne, Prague, Ostrava - at least from what I've heard - there is no State of Germany or Bavaria any longer; there are nor rules, no control - nothing. All is broken down. Everybody is just looking for them self. Without night patrols our small population wouldn't be able to sleep almost safe.
From what I see from our Geiger counters the radioactivity of the Lech has not raised that much, only if we have a lot of rain coming from the north, west or east ... so almost every rain. After those rains we have to wait for at least 2 week to take water from the Lech again. So one day we wont need any electricity cause we are glowing our self.
But we also have some good news: 17 horses and 15 cattle were born this year and 2 new babies.
What a hell of a world we have created?
Together with our Major we decided to exclaim the Free Community of Fuchstal. This we will tell our folks here tomorrow after the devotional.

No start pics with dates required , since your builds will reflect your story lines I don't think that's really needed .
We can let this fester till the weekend and see if we get some more enlistees .
You can post your progress and finished builds here .

The next story line I would like to have Terry write up .
So when your builds are finished a short story on how you've made contact with the New Republic of Texas can accompany your build photos .

So as I am not confused........:gogo All of us in this build have to write a story on how we meet up with the Republic Of Texas? Or are we free to create our own 2111 Earth?
I am still trying to come up with a story. So far it will be a bunch of survivors calling themselves the New Krypton clan. They provide armed security for convoys.

Below is a journal entry of 15 year old Isaac Scribbleboard, one of the "Norms" from what used to be Central Vermont, now a cold and dismal, but a safe place (so they think) because of it's remote and inhospitable environment.
February 29, 2111 New Montpelier
Hello Journal, I was busy today as I found this old strong box! I know I am not supposed to go looking in all the old abaonded homes during daylight hours, but I was bored, and well, I just don’t always do what I am told. I am surprised no one else found this, as the “Norms” have pretty much picked things over since the “Events”,as gramps calls it. Personally I think it is pretty safe round here, not like in Old Chittenden. But I digress. I was out lookin’ for trades, trying to get some extra credits, when I found the chest in the attic of the old Barclay house. I could just make out their name on what was left of the front door. I climbed two sets of stairs that were in pretty bad shape, and up on the third I found an old closet lined with what smelled like cedar, what a strange idea, but I think that’s what kept the box safe all these years. You see as I entered the closet the floor broke through and I got my ankle caught! The wood was so old that I was able to pry off some boards and that is when I saw it. I tried to open it, but I didn’t have the right tools, so I brought it back to our shelter in the basement of the old Montpelier Fire and Police Station. When I opened it I was astonished! I had heard about gold, but I had never seen so much in one place. This is going to keep gramps and I set for a long time, as long as I can keep it hidden. Anyway that isn’t the important part, yeah I know, lol, but it was what the gold was wrapped in that really made me think. You see it was an old Newspaper, and this is what it said…

The Deaf can Hear Again!
IBM of Essex Jct Vermont (Chittenden County) has announced today a welcomed breakthrough. Revealing reserch conducted in conjuction with the University of Vermonts School of Medicine, IBM has successfully intergrated a computer chip into the human auditory nerve. The auditory nerve helps to send sound signals or vibrations to the brain. It sits behind the cochlea and connects to the vestibular organ or semi-circular canals. This nerve is a part of the inner ear and it is just one of the many parts of the ear that allow us to hear sounds. They all work together to send these sounds or vibrations to the brain for processing. The auditory nerve contains receptor neurons. This chip replaces the tympanic membrane, the ossicles of the inner ear, the semi-circular canals as well as the cochela. The chip interfaces with the auditory nerve allowing conversion of sound waves to interperterable sound by the human brain. It also allows improved balance and greater spacial atptitude. This his new technology will allow the deaf to hear again!

Revealing reserch conducted in conjuction with the University of Vermonts School of Medicine, IBM has successfully intergrated a computer chip into the human auditory nerve. The auditory nerve helps to send sound signals or vibrations to the brain. It sits behind the cochlea and connects to the vestibular organ or semi-circular canals. This nerve is a part of the inner ear and it is just one of the many parts of the ear that allow us to hear sounds. They all work together to send these sounds or vibrations to the brain for processing. The auditory nerve contains receptor neurons. This chip replaces the tympanic membrane, the ossicles of the inner ear, the semi-circular canals as well as the cochela. The chip interfaces with the auditory nerve allowing conversion of sound waves to interperterable sound by the human brain. It also allows improved balance and greater spacial atptitude. This his new technology will allow the deaf to hear again!

OK, I got some questions. Do we have to start from scratch or can we use shelf queens , old builds and stuff like that? And does it have to be a dio or can we just make the vehicles, planes etc?

Whatever works for you. Use whatever you have to for your apocalyptic world. Having said that it is unlikely Bf 109s would be flying.

Make a bio about you or a character. Can be anywhere based on the loose storyline that was given. That way the story can be fleshed out. Then build something from this time again remembering the world isnt a technological place anymore. Your only limit is your imagination.

Contact with any other group will be done by short wave radio/video transmitters .
Terry's New Republic of Texas would be the first contact , people from around the globe were able to make contact with .
After the next set of builds , a different member and his or her global location in 2111 will be used .
As the builds and pics of them and short/long stories are posted , we can add them to the main story line and make our own graphic novel .
We really would like though to have the science , vehicles etc. be evolved from James opening story line , your builds are to represent ypur life and survival in the year 2111 , one hundred years after the so called " end " .

Any plane , tank , vehicle that existed in 2011 can be used .

I will build something I've already mentioned or perhaps something different I gues I try my first dio but as my normal work cought up again, I will be travelling a lot - so for the next months my main participation here would be to quote from the diary of my great-grandfather (which I have to correct, cause grandfather would not work ) if you don't mind ... Hello journal, There was another disappearance last night, or should I say abduction. Little Mary Singer is now missing and presumed dead. I think otherwise. I traded some of the gold I found and Gramps and I are now able to set up a ham radio. Hopefully we will be able to make contact with the outside world and get some help!

This is thrilling!!! Best novelty yet on a modelers forum, IMO!
Awesome idea that will bring many a modeler together, with lots of room for creativity... this is really something special! :dude I salute those who came up with this new way of group building: you guys rock!!! 
Congratulations to all for their stories : I started reading James' excellent starter and simply locked on, just couldn't get away from the monitor 'til I got here. This goes a long way in showing the overall potential of this group of members... perhaps some of you are missing on a writers carreer. hyeah
Lastly, yes, I'm game too! I just won't build anything this first semester as I have two entries in GBs here and I'm a beginner. But definately I'll come up with something to add to this great inniciative!
