Plus one word: Texture
 
Just a tidbit: I would only use a gloss coating for standing water, for mud I would use at most a satin finish, and many times just a darker shade of your earth tone for wet soil. Gloss just looks wrong to me.
 
Been working on the road half trying for that texture...still a ways to go but added the barbed wire I made as well...

Pretty much done on this one...thinking of maybe adding some fresher mud, but I really like the look of the dried on stuff And would hate to cover it up :(

Good job Mike, I would only add some mud on that motorbike, it would be caked in it I would think.
 
Ok...now I think this one is complete! Used some old Mig pigments mixed with wet effects and a little Future...
