TOOL TIME - Homemade Paint Booth

TOOL TIME - Workroom Reduxe

This last month has been a trying time for me and my building went to pot. I had to do some rearranging of my work space to make it conducive to go back in that room for any length of time again. The fact that I had been considering doing this and had a bit of a plan already helped a lot.

So here is the solution that helped me get my mojo back and get the building bug going again. :eek:hyeah

Getting the work space all reorganized really had a very positive effect on my spirits. The complete change to the room helped to get rid of the feeling that someone was missing. I spent most of the time I had off from Jan 1 through the 5th in there building, painting and watching the Fringe series. It worked quite well!! (y)

Till next time!! :drinks

Very cool Paul, thanks for the shout out but we're feeding off each other. I'm still smokin' over that Mill. :hmmm

TOOL TIME - Workroom Rework

This past weekend I saw Saul's post about the punch set at Harbor Freight and had to jump on it too. Boy was that set a disappointment! Here's why:

It is unfortunate that the set is a bust. The material seemed to be decent enough, but the tolerances are too large to really do a good job and as such will end up causing the tool to damage itself.

Hope this little heads up helps.

Thanks for the heads up on the punches Paul. I know that shopping at Harbor Freight can be hit or miss when it comes to quality.

I picked up one of these last year, and I don't think mine is quite as bad as your's but I do have the same issue with mine.

Thankfully it wasn't overly expensive, but I do wish I'd gone ahead & returned it, but oh well.

Good job Paul, thanks for this!

I didn't post anything about a punch set... but I see why you thought it was me (it was EJ though):

Oops! Yeah all the photos ran into one long strip. Sorry Saul nothing was meant by it!. Was a decent tool idea, just wasn't made correctly.

Don't worry, I didn't take it any other way than I must be senile as I didn't recall posting about it. Especially since I don't own it! :D

Here is a tool on its way to me...

If it is as good as it seems, I will try to get whoever reads my reviews a discount.

In the meantime, look over the rest of the videos and see how you can use it for plastic modeling...

TOOL TIME - Harbor Freight Punch Set Fail

It has come up on another thread about paint booths, so I am going to post some photos of my home built booth.

I built this light and all for a little over $100. At this point I no longer use the filter in it, I just let the fans suck it all into the dryer tube and out the window. Periodically I will wipe the paint dust off the fans and out of the tube.

The fans I use are brushless AC 4 inch instrument fans with a separate enclosed DPDT toggle switch. One of the fans is a low CFM that is quiet and works well for pulling glue and brush cleaner fumes out. I flip the switch ans turn on both fans (the second being a loud high CFM fan) to pull out the paint fumes and spray when I airbrush. I find it works well enough for me and doesn't draw a ton of dust into the spray area.

The window insert is such that it can be hot, cold, raining, or even snowing out and it works well. If I were to build another I would have 2 high CFM fans and one low CFM fan.

Here is how the duct looks after a lot of paint spraying. What it means is it is a good idea to NOT be breathing this stuff.
