SurgiCon 24 Des Moines Iowa 7 April 2018

Surgicon 24 is afoot! 7 April 2018!
WE have a different venue. The Fire Marshal deemed our favored Euclid Room unfit. Some malarkey about asbestos and safety. HE obviously has NO CLUE about what chemical compounds model builders regularly expose ourselves to! :stinker

The new site for our Show is 4260 NW 6th avenue, Des Moines IA 50313. A nice, safe, Church!
Expect our usual abundance of model fun, expanded categories, Great awards, lots of special awards.
Our potential vendor count looks very promising indeed!

I hope to see as many of you Men as is possible!

No unscheduled thermal events are anticipated at this time! :rotf
My Chuck Sterns trophies arrived in good time for our 24th Show. :dance

This is the 2nd year for a Junior Chuck Award. I hope the Kids will build models older than they are!! :ro:
Curious, are YOU, what the grown-up (?!?!) Chuck trophy looks like? Bring your classic model masterpiece and find out for yourself!! :smack
(Yes, it's an Eagle. No, it isn't the same as any previous Chuck Sterns Award!)

63 Modelers entered 330 Models. Our biggest Show yet. More details to come!
I am working on cutting 90-some pictures for your viewing pleasure! :bang head :stinker

A journey of 1,000 miles begins with the first step.
OR!
The first cup of good coffee, and the first tank of fuel!
I come to you, Allied Modelers, from the Trent Dining table here in the Sunny (after the tornader blows bah) South!
I take time from my blizzard-dodging vacation to bring these pictures of SurgiCon 24 to your hungry eye-bobbers!

This DeHavilland DH-2 stood out as a most excellent rendition.
We had so many 1/72 Aircraft, that we split the category 3 ways. Radial engine, In-line engine, and multi-engine aircraft models.

It was a great day for the Surgeons, and fine day for me as well. Here's why!
he2a868c.JPG

I had been lusting for Frank Miller's F8U-1 USMC Crusader since the first time I saw it. I have the Airmodels vacform -1 nose conversion to do my own, but didn't want to. Frank made a gift of his Star Spangled Jarhead Jet to me this day.

he1f2bee.JPG

I had been admiring Virgil's "Race 13" Lightning. At days end, he bestowed his converted Revell 1/32 P-38L upon me, since he & I might have been the only airplane nuts in the building that knew who Lefty Gardner was. I was humbled by Virgil's generosity.

3 of 4 of my entrants were awarded. 2 of them were my TLAR Model kits builds. :yipee
I feel honored to be recognized by my peers & dear friends for doing something I truly enjoy doing.

Lefty Gardner.
One of the few people to race a P-38 at Reno.
We could also build a B-25 for Reno also.
Tony Ritzman race one there in the 70's.
