Drill Bit City!!

Iron Mike

Master At Arms And Resident Curmudgeon
Hey, Guys & Gals! I wanted to share a recent discovery with you, a good friend turned me on to these awesome little drill bits recently. Drill Bit City sells resharpened small scale drill bits in various sizes, their service is excellent and the pricing is affordable! These little babies are really sharp!

I ordered my most recent purchase on February 8 in the afternoon and they were in the mailbox Friday, Feb 10! Upon opening the boxes, I found three bits had found their way into the foam packaging and broke when I popped it open. D'oh! :pinch: I called them this morning and was pleasantly surprised they were going to send replacements out today! That is excellent service!! Find their offering at http://drillbitcity.com/

I guess I should add that this is not a commercial for Drill Bit City, I paid for the product with my own hard earned cash and wanted to share the info with my friends. Try 'em, you'll love them! :drinks

I love them, that's why I told Mike about them and I've sung their praises here before.

They also have a Yahoo store that offers more sets. don't know why the two but here it is.

this is what I usually get.

I tend to use more in the #70-79 range for armor, that's the set I just bought. The one in the clear package is half #79 & 80, they were on sale and Phantom II and I split a set each. Moon Pup has the big set, he swears by it!

I like the 50 set because it has double some of the common size smaller ones but a wide range of what you may need. I had to hit some last night as a matter of fact! :mpup

Maybe it's just cause I'm newer to modelling, but what would you use these for (besides the obvious of drilling a hole)?

If you break one off, they are a great hole filler!! :D These bits are extremely sharp, compared to normal wire hobby drills.

When I first posted about Drill Bit City a long time ago, the guys at Drill Bit City had offered to sell exactly the bits you want (mix and match your own).

Be careful with the bits as they are fragile. This is from a post on January of 2010:

"I already broke TWO drill bits!

The first, I drilled deep and tried it pull it out without reversing when I heard a snap.
The bit tip stayed inside.

The second, I was much more careful until I let go of the bit and it snapped under its own weight.

This is what I bought and why:

I need the following:
#96 2 pieces (these are good for 1/35th scale modern rifles and 1/48th scale 30 Cal MG)
#89 3 pieces (these are good for 1/32 and 1/35th 30 Cal machine guns)
#86 3 pieces (these are good for 1/48th scale 50 Cal HMGs)
#78 2 pieces (these are good for 1/35th scale 14.5mm Modern Russian Heavy Machine Guns & 1/48th scale 20mm cannon)

Unleashing loud strings of curse words when you break 3 bits off in your hand when you're reaching for something over them..

Drilling holes is understated, drilling really small holes are what they are best for. :mpup

Three cheers for drill bit city :yipee Their product is top notch and their service is at least equal to Sprue brothers.
For those that don't know me,I build 1/72 scale aircraft. Believe me, there's always plenty of small holes to be opened in this scale. This is a great way to do it. None of the tool places carry the smaller bits # 80 on up . If you like to do extra detailing, this is the way to go.

Cheers, Christian B)
