Love that night vision scope...

Mike, can you post photos of the night vision scope? Having extras from the old Shanghai Dragon Panther and the Tamiya kit, I never thought of picking up one of these sets. I wonder if it would be worth it?

Regards,

I didn't know Germany had night vision gear for their tanks in the 40's- I heard about it on ships, but not armor! Here's a review.... Thanks for the pic mike.

No problem......... :D

I still have several from the Tamy Panther Ausf. G
model kit, but they are the basic set up. Lion Roar,
or Great War Hobby's has taken the German Night Vision
set-up to the next leval.......... :mpup

Saul, I am not sure if you have seen this one, wish it was not
as distorted as it is.

I have seen that fake photograph. Thomas Anderson took a hit for publishing it in his Panther book (Concord Publishing) especially since the unmodified photo was also in it!

See how the composite photo was made from the original two:

Regards,

Why go through the trouble, are they no pictures of the night vision system installed?

Greetings Bob;

Yes there are........... I will post some.... :mpup

I do not understand why some people have to post fake
photographs. May haps be, they like messing with people.
"O" well........ and life goes on........ :idonno

The MGs barrels will be replace by one of these. MG-34, or MG-42.

Note........ the coaxial MG-34 barrels.

Additional radios for the interior...... :D

A quick correction for you, the lamp was not mounted on the front face of the mantlet armor but on the starboard side atop a Notek base.

Thanks Saul;

Thats good info for the Panther Asf. G...... but I am doing an
Ausf. F........... The gunner had a night sight installed in
the turret. no need for the external sight for him.

On the Ausf. F .......... the only external sight would be
the commanders set-up.

Mike, the correction was for the last page, from Achtung Panzer on the Panther, which shows a lamp mounted on the front of the mantlet.

What are you referring to as the night scope on the Panther F? The side items are a rangefinder, it didn't work at night so you may be referring to something else.

Regards,

Wow,Mike!

What a bunch of aftermarket stuff, that Adlersnest MG 42 barrel looks way cool!

Greetings,Ron.

.... What I was referring to is the gunsight.

Note..... on this early panther Ausf F turret there is a opening in the front
armor for a sight similar to the panther Ausf G. Later the gun sight was moved
to the turret roof.

..... I believe that on the Panther Ausf G, that there was more than just one
way that the IR equipment was install. The IR set where installed in the field,
not at the tank plants. You know how creative the Germans where during WW_II.

If I am not mistaken the photo you posted is from TANKpower, PzKpfw. V
Panther Vol. 1. The author is Waldemar Troiga, 1999.

I find it rather interesting that these pics also come from the same book.

It does look similar to this one.

Panther & Its Variants
Walter J. Spielberger, and Hilary Doyle
Pub. Schiffer Military/Avation History,
& Motor Buch Verlag

One more item worth discussion. A while back someone told me that the chassis on
the Ausf G, and the Ausf. F was the same. Check this one out.

Photos......... The web..... unknown.

Note the IR Para scope, on the right side of the photo. It is
smiler to the ones the Commander, Gunner, and Driver had
on the Panther Ausf F. Also of interest is the IR rifle scopes...

Hi Mike,

The photo of the mantlet was from an eBay image which is probably how Trojca got it for his book.

The FG1250 infrared was not issued to any of the Panthers. The Panthers were to be ready should the sets be issued.

Note that the first photo shows a regular Bosch light, not infrared. The infrared lights were much larger as the rest of your photos attest.
