Well time to start another project.

This will be a familiar one with just a bit of a familiar twist.

This will be for a tribute build on YouTube. The Year of the Dog.

More soon.

For most this will be enough to tell you what the twist will be.

More to come.....

I think every one of us who's built that thing wanted to do a cutaway version. Looking forward to this Joe. :popcorn

My uncle Joe was a navigator on one of those and did 35 missions.
He never had much to say about it.

1/48 B-17G Chowhound...Starting Point

As with all builds there is a starting point.

For this build it starts with the kit pieces. For me it means what do I need to do to prep this for what I am planning to do. This kit as most know, has a lot of moulded in detail. It all has to go. For my plan to work it needs to be a clean slate. I also need to remove all the positioning points for the flooring and bulkheads. For that I will need to fashion different ones that will be out of sight when I cut into the fuselage.

So out came the white glue and the flooring and bulkheads were set into place.

May take a while to get through the detail to a clean slate.

Joe, just want to throw out one thing.

The vents that are behind the engine nacelles are not exhaust ports. 90% of the B17s modeled has smoke stains coming out of those. Those were air waste ducts for the superchargers and oil cooling systems. Clean air would be coming out of those, if anything soot would be diverted from those ports. Look at real B17 photos from above and see what i'm talking about.

Many thanks for looking in and the comments and advice.

MP I will not forget. Honestly I have not thought about weathering yet. Way too early for that part of it.

It is for sure. Actually what you see is only the tip of the iceberg.

I actually do not even have all the supplies I need. I hope to have the rest within the next month.
