This is part 2 of biting off more than I can chew.

This will be my tribute to the late Dan Jayne. This will be constructed as a cut away build and I will attempt to present it in a style that he did.

Stay tuned folks.

I remember that kit when I was a kid, lots of stuff inside.

Joe, one thing about the cut away, think about the thickness of the skin, if you can taper it down to make it look like sheet metal I think it would really look cool!

1/24 MPC/Airfix JU 87B The Beginning

The prep work begins.

The first step is to decide where to make the cuts. What do I want to show on this. i sat and stared at the kit for several hours over several days before I felt comfortable enough to mark out the sections with a sharpie. Next is some actual fabrication. Using sections of a large styrene sign I rough cut and then fine tuned the bulkheads from the rear of the cockpit to the tail.

My next step will be to overcome that fear and actually cut into the plastic to open up the sections.

Not much yet but all comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.

Absolutely agree about the fear of the first cut, i just had that cutting spokes out of a wheel. Just think...I can do this :)
Do you know what the inside of the fuselage actually looks like or are you making it up ?

Many thanks for you all looking in.

I built this very kit back in 1980. I still have it (in pieces) It took a dive from the ceiling at the local hobby shop back in the 90's Has been packed away for a possible rebuild in the future.
The main thing I remember is the decals were garbage. Totally unusable! They were like mylar and wouldn't stick let alone lay down. I ended up using the plastic decals to make patterns and painted all the markings with my old single action Badger airbrush. Turned out fairly well considering it was before aftermarket decals, before PE, before resin, before Verlinden and all the other stuff.

Looking forward to seeing how you do this Joe! :popcorn

Many many thanks.

I do have a plan for the decals. They appear pretty bad right now. I am hoping to be able to scan and then do my own.

1/24 MPC/Airfix JU 87B Not Forgotten

It has been a while

How about I bring this back to the bench.

First up is to take a good look at the kit parts. The interior looks pretty dang good actually.

I am thinking I will go with this for the most part. There is a bit I want to cut off to open it up a bit and I do want to add just a bit.

More soon I hope. This is back and ready to be worked on.

1/24 MPC/Airfix JU 87B A Little Tail (Work)

Before I can really get into the detailing on the interior of the fuselage I need to prep the interior of the fuselage a bit.

The tail is framed, this may not be accurate but it does match up with the rivets on the exterior. The stringers are also in. Still a touch more to do but nearly ready.

Sorry just one picture this time around.
