    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Thanks buddy. It was hairy at times, but you always had good advice. As promised - The A6M5 was finished first and photographed earlier. I'm ecstatic about how this plane turned out - it was built using entirely new techniques from the Mig and AK books. I learned one hell of a lot building...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Sorry, sorry, sorry - I always forget to update my threads on this site! :bangs head I hope these photos aren't too big (don't break the tables) but IMGUR doesn't seem to have a thumbnail feature anymore.

Build log 1:32 Tamiya F-15C with lots of goodies

I wondered how long you were going to get away with all the time you've been spending downstairs. It looks really good! Are you glad that you used the HD Dry-transfers? Using decals, you'd inadvertently move a dozen of them every time you picked up the model to put a new one on. Plus this...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Yes essentially - it's supposed to be an even 1mm around the entire serial. The end result ended up looking like a decal that was out of register. I'm having the same problem with the last set of masks, but it looks like I have an email in my inbox from Mal as we speak.

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

    Thanks guys. After getting some constructive feedback from this and other forums, I decided to repaint some markings on the Rufe. Inspired by Spencer Pollards recent effort to accept criticism of his Harrier scratch build, I knew this is the right decision. In the meantime;

Yeah the Hasegawa kit. :pinch: Oh well, can't win them all.

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

I am soooooo so so so so sorry folks. I have barely had time to build and at the end of those non-existent time periods I scraped seconds in to update my threads.... but forgot about this one. So yeah, there has been a lot of progress.... Here's the latest installment. Well, we have some...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Dub-dub-double post update! Making up the ignition wiring. The reference photos I'm using are from the NASM's Gekko (as it uses the same engine). The drawings - even in the Aero Detail book! - are hard to decipher as far as where the wiring goes. Basically as far as I can tell, in front of...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Here's a quick tip with a crummy pic. Most sources for small wire leave you with a wire that's been curled or bent etc. It's always best to scratch something from wire that's straight to begin with. Here's a painfully easy way to get that wire completely straight. Put the wire on your work...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

lol just wait for twin Airfix Typhoons :drool I have had to write "5" or "2" on each page of the instructions, because the steps are almost identical, but some of the parts (or colours) are different. This odd colour is on all of the A6M2 to 3 Zeros, it's a 50/50 mix of IJN grey and light...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Hey guys. Just another quick update. So I discovered - much to my horror - that I had made an oversight when painting the engine for the A6M2N. The entire crankcase is actually a (very odd colour) and not a neutral gray like I thought. The casing on the A6M5 is metallic from front to back...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Just a quick dry fit. No weathering done yet, but I am going to paint the engine exactly as per the AK Interactive Aircraft FAQ - trying some new techniques. http://aeroscale.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=11372 This is the Sakae type 21 radial from...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Do yourself a favor - buy and build a 32nd scale Tamiya P-51D - If you want more detail add the Barracudacast sets - they're easy to install - might as well be OOB. You wont regret it. Nah, the air and furnace were 15 years old and the aircon was having a hard time keeping up. So new furnace...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Thanks kids I'm stuck at home all day today while some contractors replace furnace, a/c hot water tank etc. I guess I'll just haaave to do some modelling.

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Let's bring this thread back from the dead! Sorry for the delay folks, I don't even really know where the time went. Filling, sanding and scribing have been my modelling life for the past few months. Surprisingly the wing on the OOB A6M5 was a MUCH more difficult fit than the converted...

    NATO's LanceR- a Romanian MiG 21MF in 1/48

Beautiful update as always my friend. It's that point in the build where you put in a lot of time but progress always feels slow. Speaking of slow - I'm almost ready to update the A6M thread. I have also made some progress on the long stalled MDC Typhoon. Something I never would have done if...

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

Hey guys, the tails of both aircraft are assemnbled. and the wing for the Rufe has been modified. I just wanted to give a BIG shoutout to Mal Mayfiend of Mirical Masks. I meant to message him way earlier in order to have the paint masks ready ahead of time. Mal rushed into my order and they...

Icaerodesign 1/32 MiG 21 LanceR conversion

Gorgeous looking set - it's one of those sets that looks so good you would be tempted to buy it without even having the kit.

    BUILD LOG - Tamiya's 1/32nd A6M5

EDIT - Sorry for the cell phone pics. I can't remember where I left off, but the cockpits are done, the cowl mounted guns installed completed with Master Barrels - I love these things. The biggest achievement has been the tail for the Rufe - it's a 5 part converstion and involves some...
