This is actually a B5N2 but you get the idea.

Looks cool Randy! You don't know how close I came to doing a Betty.

Re: Nakajima B5N1 Hasagawa 1/48th

Hi Folks,

After whiffing completely on the 'More Than Four Wheels" GB

I figured about time I get going on this one!!!

Tried to find the boxing of the B5N2 with the folding wings but failed. Still wanted to do something like the ref. pic I posted.

Decided after checking ref. that I could use my B5N1 if I put in the correct engine for the B5N2 and leave off the sheet metal foward of the cockpit

Went to our air section 'Wesendorf Field' and studied Moom Puppy's Wildcat build. If you ever want to do an exposed engine build on a prop plane, MP's is the one you have to check out!!

Re: Nakajima B5N1 Hasagawa 1/48th

Seemed like the 'Vector Models' motor that MP used looked good so I ordered up their kit for my plane..

Gotta say that the casting is just beautiful but as a new guy to planes I was rather shocked that the sum total of all instructions was that little 1" x 2" drawing that I just posted :idonno :blink

Also picked up the Euard etch set and the mask set...

Not alot out on the web showing my plane's engine but the A6M 'Zero' and the 'Betty' used the same powerplant....

Fof discussion only...

These plus a bunch more enabled some progress on the engine..

Re: Nakajima B5N1 Hasagawa 1/48th

The ignition wiring is just really fine copper wire from an old lamp cord. Looks like I will have to come up with the exhaust system.

Still need alot of work on this engine but it's a start :D :D

Re: Nakajima B5N1 Hasagawa 1/48th

Vector is quite the deal in resin engines. Just as the rest of the after market manufacturers though the art of making decent instruction seems to have disappeared.

Great job of assembly Randy. Can't wait to see more.

Cheers, Christian B)

Re: Nakajima B5N1 Hasagawa 1/48th

Love it, I wish that Victor at Vector would start making exhaust that goes with these fine engines. I know that's a tall order but a guy can wish.

Great looking powerplant Randy.. :mpup

Re: Nakajima B5N1 Hasagawa 1/48th

Hi Folks,

Mike, Thank you my friend :Hiay :Hiay

Kdaddy, Glad you like it so far!!

Thank you Christian :)

Thanks Bob, I suppose that most of these motors went into several different planes, all with different exhaust setups, so to keep cost down Vector just doesn't offer any choice :idonno :idonno

Hello Martin, Appreciate the kind words!!

Some progress on the 'Kate'... Using Eduard etch, soldered up the seats....

More etch and some minor scratch bits.....
