Kinetic 1/48 F-16XL

Hadn't seen anyone else mention this, so I thought I would. These were posted on the Kinetic Facebook page the other day.

These renderings were posted on the 18th.

And then these build shots were posted on the 20th.

I've always really liked the look of the XL version of the F-16, so I think I'll definitely be looking at getting one eventually. Lots of What-If possibilities with this one.

The European countries either already had the F16 or was opting for the more modern Eurofighter or Saab

Nice! That might be the one that turns me to the modern stuff.

It's one I wish had gone into service.

From what I remember, it greatly increased the payload capability of the F-16, but still kept its performance capabilities, b/c of the greatly increased wing surface.

Kinda wonder what it would look like w/ conformal fuel tanks. Got a CMK conversion kit for an Israeli F-16. Might almost think about putting those on one of these, just for grins & giggles.

Wonder why this aircraft never made it to production?

It was originally conceived as a technology demonstrator. Lockheed entered it in the USAF Enhanced Tactical Fighter competition were it lost out to the F-15E due in part to the extensive flight test program that would have been required to make it production ready.

I think those tanks are the worse thing they could have done to the lines of an F-16, looks like it's got warts all over it now.
