Sweet.

It's not much of a leap from heated sculpting tools used for wax work. Just a heating element with a gear to advance the PLA or ABS filament.

I bet you could make a simple one with a brass tube, some nichrome wire and cork to insulate.
 
Yeah, it looks interesting, but is not available even for pre-order yet. Would hate to consider how much it will cost, and can't really visualize a valid use for it. Neat gimick, but for me (the tool monster that I am) can't justify it. :idonno

The web page lists it for $139.00 US. Not too bad I dont think. Was thinking you could make longerons with it, weave a wicker seat, draw some cable runs. I'm sure there would be countless uses. Either way it is a very cool device.
