Years back, my friend had one of those, tunnel rammed too on a 283. He figured out a way to get it wind out at 11 grand, something to do with the journals being thick enough for main bearings he had made. Can't remember exactly, we're talking about nearly 40 years ago, but I'm pretty sure he was hitting low 8s in the quarter. That car was a legend for years.
