Beautiful so far. Is that a 54mm? I look forward to seeing more.

Hi James,

Yes is a "real" 54mm from Metal Modeles.

Thanks so much for your compliments.

I forgot to ask. Is it done in oils or acrylics? If acrylics what are you using? I have just ordered some Vallejo and 4 different Andrea sets (blue, red, white, black). Again I look forward to more.

Hi James,

Face and apron are done with oils, the rest in acrylics. As for the acrylics I use both Vallejo and Andrea, really depends on what I have at home and found in the shop.

As for the colours sets from Andrea, are a good base, but I suggest you to use your own mix to have a better control.

Please feel free to ask if you want to know more.

Hi Dioramix,

I will definetely try to make an SBS, with my next figure, what I can say is, we need to avoid, when we paint white, only one colour..WHITE!

Let me explain, I use a grey color, made with a drop of buff/off white and blue tones(for cold tones) or brown tones(for warm tones). I then paint as I'm painting grey, and use white to highlight the basic tone using pure white only on maximum light.

As for red, I use as a base the reddish brown from Vallejo and Napoleonic red, scarlet and orange for the highlight (with pure orange for the maximum light) and green mixed to the base for shadows, with a toucg of black for maximum shadow.

I hope this helps.

Right guys, a small update, not a proper SBS, but close.

I've finish to paint the base for the trims (?) I will finish these in oils.

I've also touch up slightly the white to make a more subtle transition between shadow and highlights.

Last but not least I've scratched to bare mtal the buttons and all the metal parts to paint these in gold with transparent paints.

A new update after easter.

Ciao

Giovanni

Hi all,

After my first tank, I've now painting again my little friends.

I've managed to finish the whites, doing the drummer and short sword belt, also finished the embroidery and the metals on the vest and on the chin straps.

Still needs to touch up the shoulders straps and few other things, but the oil paint is fresh so I need to wait.

You may notice alos that the back, where the haversack will be placed is really bad painted, but will be covered so why waiste time?

Next step (when I'll be back from holiday) will be the blacks!

Let me know what you think.

Ciao

Giovanni

Giovanni,
Wow, this is great so far... I wish that I could do figures 1/2 as good as you do...
Alas, I guess it's just not my calling. But I do enjoy making them anyways...
Your face and shading is outstanding.
I'll be watching this one closely, keep posting pictures.
